Parents who excel at maths may give birth to children who are also good at the subject, a study by researchers at University of Pittsburgh in the US shows. The study explored inter-generational transmission- the concept of parental influence on an offspring's behaviour or psychology- in mathematics capabilities. "our findings suggest an intuitive sense for numbers has been passed down- knowingly or unknowingly- from parent to child. Meaning, essentially, the maths skill of parents tend to 'rub off' on their children,'' said lead researcher Melissa E Libertus, an assistant professor at the university's learning R&D centre. Researchers found that the performance levels for early school-aged children on standardised mathematics tests could be reliably predicted by their parent's performance on similar examinations. that means my child is gonna be super intelligent in mathematics :)

Many of the Volkswagen cars sold since 1995 can easily be unlocked by hackers, according to a team of researchers. A large number of the 100 million cars sold in the last 20 years by Volkswagen - also including the Audi, Seat and Skoda brands- can be unlocked using just a homemade radio that costs about 30 pound sterling. The cheap equipment allows hackers to listen in on the signals sent by the keys to their cars. Those signals can then be replicated using the same equipment. Volkswagen has said that it is aware of the problem and is working with the researchers who found it. The issues are described by researchers from the university of Birmingham and German security company Kasper & Oswald. Their paper lays out two separate ways of doing the attack which would compromise the locking systems on VW cars. Men are more likely to bitten than women, and almost every one third of such incidents involve delivery workers and postal staff, the research by pet insures Animal Friends has revealed. Scientists are developing a 3D food printer that can fabricate edible items through computer guided software and the actual cooking of edible pastes, gels, powders, and liquid ingredients- all in a prototype that looks like an elegant coffee machine. "food printers are not meant to replace conventional cooking.They will not solve all of our nutritional needs, nor cook everything we should eat," said Hod Lipson from Columbia university in the US. "but they will produce an infinite variety of customised fresh , nutritional foods on demand, transforming digital recipes and basic ingredients supplied in frozen cartridges into healthy dishes that can supplement our daily intake" said Lipson.
